We're Stronger Than We Think

A Story Of Internet Comments

I read an internet comment thread recently. It was on Instagram. Oprah had posted a video about the children who have been kidnapped by the U.S. government and put into internment camps.

Hundreds of people responded. Most were asking how they could help. What could they do to stop this nightmare? How could they help the children recover from the trauma when the nightmare eventually ends? It filled me with hope. It made me cry. People care. Maybe we’ll be ok after all.

And then I kept scrolling. That’s when the other comments came up, the ones saying there was nothing wrong with this, the ones justifying this heinous act, you know, all those ones. And then my hope got sucked away into a vacuum of darkness. No tears. I guess we’ll never be ok. This is hopeless.

A Story of Magical Healing

Since then I've been giving Reiki to the nation of the United States.

If you don’t know, Reiki is a form of subtle healing that is about channeling the energy of unconditional love to bring the recipient their highest good.
Like I said, I've been doing this for the U.S. by imagining the nation between my hands and letting the energy flow through me.
The first time I did it, I felt the strangest thing. I expected the energy of the nation to feel disrupted, toxic, unhealthy, like the dark comments I had read. Instead, the energy I felt was strong, clean, clear, and determined. It was the aspect of the U.S. that is a united front moving toward love, like the comments from those wanting to take action to help.

The energy of this movement is stronger than I thought it was. My hope came rushing back.

A Story of an Internet Rabbit Hole

Today, I read this Facebook post from Penzey’s Spices about the success of businesses that stand against the wrongs committed by the current administration. I found this part particularly interesting:

“I get that for so many this can seem at odds with the feeling being presented right now that this is an evenly split nation, but it really isn’t.... Watching tv ads and reading comment sections it can seem like [the current Republican administration] actually has popular support, but ads and comments these days are simply part of what unlimited political spending can buy…”

Then I watched this video on “How to Defeat Authoritarianism”, about the success of nonviolent resistance movements. This statistic stood out to me: “Studies show no government can withstand a challenge of 3.5% of its population.”

I was curious about that statistic. Was it real? I found this article on nonviolent resistance, which led me to a TED talk on the original study. It’s a real thing!

3.5%, you guys. We can do this!

Liberation and Love

It's July 4, Independence Day in the United States, when we celebrate liberty as a nation, and here is what I have to say about that.

Oppression is a global wound, and we are here to help heal the world.

Activism is effective, magical healing work because it helps heal this wound by bringing the collective of humanity closer to true liberation.

There are more people craving love than we realize.

We are stronger as a collective than we might know.

Let's celebrate Indepence Day by howling together for the sake of liberty and justice for all.

Teaching imaginative women, who are stuck in the trap of the Dull Gray Cubicle, how to find the freedom and empowerment to come alive and do what they are meant to do.
